Agmatine vs Citrulline in Pre-Workout
Agmatine sulfate and citrulline are not interchangeable pump ingredients. They have different biological roles, different forms on supplement labels and different research bases. A formula containing both does not prove they produce better results together.
When I look at a pump product, I want to know why an ingredient is there—and where the evidence stops. This comparison separates those questions so you can evaluate a formula without treating every pump claim as a proven result.

Citrulline has direct resistance-exercise studies—but read their scope
A randomized study in 12 trained men compared citrulline malate with placebo during repeated lower-body machine exercises and reported more repetitions with citrulline malate. That is a specific ingredient, population and exercise protocol—not a trial of every pre-workout.
Other research asks different questions. A trial in untrained young men did not find improved muscle recovery with citrulline malate after its resistance-exercise protocol. Do not turn one positive outcome into a promise about every performance or recovery measure.

Agmatine research is not automatically pump research
One human agmatine sulfate trial frequently encountered in research searches involved lumbar disc-associated radiculopathy. It was not a workout-pump or strength trial. Its population and purpose cannot substantiate better training results for healthy lifters.
That distinction matters whenever a label explanation jumps from a biological pathway to a promised outcome. The clinical work cited here does not establish agmatine as superior to citrulline, and it is not a reason to use a pre-workout to manage a medical condition.

Why can a product contain both?
A formulator can select different ingredients for different rationales. That is not the same as demonstrating an additive benefit in a trial of the finished combination. More line items also do not remove the need to review directions, warnings and personal suitability.
