10 Years, 20+ Meets, and No Days Off: A Firefighter’s Guide to Strength Longevity

10 Years, 20+ Meets, and No Days Off: A Firefighter’s Guide to Strength Longevity

The Reality of the Platform

I’m Chris Northern, and I’ve spent over a decade under the bar. With 20+ sanctioned powerlifting meets on my resume, I’ve seen the sport evolve from "old school" grit to "new school" science. But more importantly, I’ve balanced this with my career as a firefighter. When you’re responding to calls after a heavy squat session, you don't have the luxury of "recovery days" or "resting."

I founded SuppDawg because I was tired of supplements that couldn't handle the dual-stress of a professional career and an elite lifting hobby. Most "pro-level" supplements are designed for people whose only job is to lift. That’s not real life.

Why Absorption is Everything (BuffDawg)

Early in my career, I took whatever creatine was on sale. I ended up with bloating, stomach cramps, and zero performance gain. That’s why when I formulated BuffDawg, I insisted on the addition of BioPerine®.

In powerlifting, every gram of weight matters—especially what you put in your body. BioPerine® increases the thermogenesis of the gut, essentially "forcing" the creatine into the bloodstream. As a firefighter, I need to stay hydrated and explosive. BuffDawg provides that cellular hydration without the "water weight" look of cheap alternatives. It’s the product I trust to keep my joints feeling fluid after a decade of abuse.

Managing the "Second Shift" with Ruff Night

Being a lifter in your 30s is different than your 20s. The recovery isn't automatic anymore. Add in the high-stress environment of fire and rescue, and your nervous system is constantly under fire. I realized that the secret to my longevity wasn't a new training program—it was better sleep.

I formulated Ruff Night to be the ultimate shutdown switch. For the lifter who uses high-stimulants like Shock Collar to get through their training, you must have a way to turn the lights off. Ruff Night isn't just a sedative; it’s a restorative agent. It helps clear the "brain fog" that comes from heavy triples and 24-hour shifts.

The Expertise of Experience

If a supplement company owner hasn't stepped on a platform or lived a high-stress life, they are just guessing. I’ve tested these formulas in the most extreme conditions. Whether it's a 3rd attempt deadlift or a 3:00 AM emergency call, the SuppDawg lineup is designed to perform when the stakes are highest.

"We don't sell supplements to help you look good in a mirror. We sell tools to help you dominate your environment." — Chris Northern
